Amazon.com Product Description The first trimmer in its class to receive the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star certification for its charging system, this efficient and environmentally friendly model from Black & Decker trims mowed areas on most 1/2-acre homesites, and is great for heavy-duty weed clearing and cutting. Powered by a longlasting 36-volt NiCad battery for robust performance that rivals gas, but without the mess and hassle, the NST2036 boasts a 14-inch cut path and speeds up to 7,500 RPM. In fact, it cuts more area per charge than any other cordless trimmer currently on the market, and yields impressive results even around tough areas like against fences, near gutter drains, or the perimeter of trees with large root bases. It's also very easy to operate, thanks to a host of helpful features like dual .080-inch lines for long life, a patented gear drive for the right amount of torque to handle thick, bushy grass and brush, and a variable speed trigger for optimum control. For additional comfort and stability, you can adjust the auxiliary handle to your height, and the telescoping shaft can also be extended to access whatever you're cutting. Finally, a bump feed system feeds the line on demand, and a shoulder strap helps ensure even distribution of weight. The NST2036 comes with a three-year warranty.

Rechargeable weed eater B&D 36 volt November 2, 2009 Janet L. Gilliland This Black and Decker cordless weed eater is balanced very well and uses a hefty string that does last and is easy to rewind on the spool. The battery takes the full 12 hours to recharge as listed in the instructions. The only drawback that I can see on this piece of equipment is that the charge only lasts for 25 minutes of weed eating. That 25 minutes is either in full speed mode or when throttling at a lower speed. The long charge time makes it so a person must have the mindset to do the 25 minutes of weed whacking and then find something else to do until the battery is recharged. This machine will cut anything that a gasoline engine driven weed eater will cut. I was very impressed with that and the fact that just a little bump will give you more string. I would buy this machine again but would buy 2 batteries to get more done in one day. (The charger will charge two batteries at one time.)
Good power - BAD battery October 20, 2009 Michael Vinson (Dallas) I love the start up and lack of maintenance of this weed eater, but the battery life is only about 15 minutes. When fully charged, this battery has much more battery than similar weed eaters, but the battery does not last long enough for me to edge and weed eat my yard. Don't buy this weed eater unless you are prepared to spring for the extra battery.
Better than Gas October 5, 2009 RJ (Indiana) I was becoming increasingly annoyed by the fumes, noise, fueling and difficulty in starting my gas trimmer. However, I have a very large property and some heavy growth in certain areas and I knew most electric string trimmers would not work for me. I thought I would give the B & D Heavy Duty trimmer a try. I love it.
The trimmer does a great job with trimming and edging and does have the power to cut some heavy weeds. The string feeding mechanism works well and I use way less string than my last gas trimmer. The unit is quiet and it is so nice not to have the smell. Since there is quite a bit of distance between some of my trimming areas, the instant on and off of an electric unit is great.
In my view, there are two downsides of the unit. It is heavy and your arms will get tired if you do not use the strap or use it inappropriately. My other concern is battery life. The battery lasts between 20 and 30 minutes for me and I need about twice that time to finish all of my regular trimming. Since the battery does take a long time to charge, I am thinking about getting an additional battery for next season.
My suggestions and problems September 29, 2009 Richard H. Shumaker (West Chester, PA, USA) I purchased this unit to allow trimming grass and brush, without annoying my neighbors with the gas driven ones. From my experiences, I recommend buying the second battery. After using this trimmer many times, the maximum time my batteries have lasted is 15 minutes. When I called B&D, they said that was normal. Recharging from completely discharged takes 12-16 hours. After my orginal battery stopped, I put it into the charger. The diagnostics said I had a defective battery pack. (Batteries must be taken to a B&D service center for replacement. Nearest one is an hour away from me.) However, after waiting about 10 minutes, the battery did recharge OK. The unit does well on grass, but not on stems of about 1/4 inch thick such as roses. At that time the string comes completely out of the holder, which takes a while to reload. (This unit was purchased at Amazon.)
Battery powered string trimmer September 23, 2009 Dale A. Johnston (Mystic Connecticut) I have just used the Black & Decker NST2036 Heavy-Duty 36-Volt Cordless Electric String Trimmer. I charge up the battery upon receiving the order. I was leaving on vacation for labor day weekend to Maine. It sat in my basement for 2 weeks before I was able to use it. I have approximately 3/4 of an acre to trim, it did half of the land with plenty of power left for the rest. I love it as I don't have to string extension cords for the other trimmer which I just got rid of in a yard sale. You can't find one better.
